Deal of the Day: Dual Charge AC for $13

With a USB cable, you can charge your PS3 controllers through your PS3 system, or a home computer. However, if these options don't work for you, then Nyko has a different solution. The Dual Charge AC will let you charge your PS3 controllers through a standard wall outlet, letting you charge even when your PS3 or computer isn't turned on. A small convenience for most, but this peripheral should also work with any other device that charges via USB. At $13 at amazon.com, this is a pretty good deal.

PlayStation Eye available by itself, for the cheaps

If, for some reason, you don't want to get addicted to the sexiness that will be Eye of Judgment, Sony's got your back. It's the first we've heard of it, but there's definitely an option to buy just the PlayStation Eye peripheral without all the extra goodies. The price is very easy to swallow for the technology you're getting -- forty bucks. That's really not bad at all, huh? But you have to remember, for just thirty dollars more, you get Eye of Judgment, a stand and some other peripheral trinkets. The choice is yours, ultimately, but why grab the fancy new peripheral without a game to play on it?

Deal of the Day: Harry Potter and the OOTP $28 at Amazon

If you're one of the jabillion Harry Potter fans out there but haven't yet had the chance to play Harry's latest adventure on the PS3, here's your chance. Amazon is selling Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix for a meager $28.

Reviewers have lauded the title as the best Potter game yet and that it's apparent EA took the extra special time working on the game.

Because the game is Amazon's Deal of the Day, it will only be on sale for today, so you better pick it up while you can.

EB Games still has 20GB PS3s available

We know Sony probably has a new PS3 model in the works, but this is just plain ol' silly. Could the left-for-dead 20GB PS3 be making a triumphant return from the grave? If EB Games' website is to be believed, it could seem so as the retailer lists the stripped-down model for only $450, which is about $50 more than the rumored 40GB unit.

Most likely, the company is trying to burn through some of its old stock or it's just a mistake, but hey, if you really need a cheaper PS3 right now, why not take the plunge?

PS3 and eight Blu-ray movies for $475

It sucks to be an early adopter, y'know? We had to suffer intolerable waits in line, high prices, and a lack of free bonuses. (Okay, so we got "Talladega Nights.") Either through a glitch, or an intentional deal on amazon.com's part, you can buy a 60GB PS3 system and get eight Blu-ray movies for about $475, free shipping included. How does one take part in such a spectacular deal?
  • Add the 60GB PS3 to your amazon.com shopping cart.
  • Choose three Blu-ray movies from this list and add them to the cart. [Updated link!]
  • Right before checkout, you'll see the discount applied (see picture, right).
Then, you'll get a rebate form for five more Blu-ray movies. Even if you don't want to be part of a next-gen movie format war, this is still one of the cheapest ways we've seen to get a PS3 -- the free movies are a nice added bonus.

Deal of the Day: GRAW 2 for $45 at Fry's

With the incredible amount of games coming out over the next couple months, PlayStation 3 owners' wallets are going to get a bit stressed. Luckily the game deals keep rolling in letting gamers on a budget pick up the hot titles AND still be able to eat.

Today we have a nice tip from Cheap Ass Gamer that Fry's is selling Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2 for $45 dollars, a tasty 25% discount from the retail price. The game has been getting good reviews and even though the game is 6 months late, Ubisoft appears to have done a good job at porting it from the 360 and have added quite a bit of additional content to help compensate for the delay. The cheap price just makes it all the more attractive.

Deal of the Day: Lair and Folklore for £15 each at Amazon

Despite there being no retail releases in Europe this week, Amazon are keeping people happy with two potentially great games available for £15 each. Lair and Folklore have both received the less-than-half-price treatment and are now firmly at the top of the bestsellers list for Video Games.

This seemingly random deal has no explanation attached, nor an indication of when it might end. So if you fancy getting two PS3 exclusives for this incredibly cheap price, then do it now. Both titles promise to be excellent fun and we've thoroughly enjoyed our hands on time with both of them. The only problem now is, do you import Lair and pay full price, but get it a month early? Or order it from Amazon for less than half price and wait until mid October? Decisions, decisions ...

[Thanks to everyone who sent this in]

Deal of the Day: Nyko "Blu Wave" remote

Want to use something other than the PS3 controller to control movies on your system? Well, you can pick up Nyko's "Blu Wave" remote for a shockingly low $10 from amazon.com. However, there's one crucial flaw that prevents it from being an all-around great deal: the lack of a power button. You can, as some have done, use the RF adapter to teach other universal remotes (such as the Harmony) to interface with the PS3. Or, you can go for Sony's more expensive, but more elegant solution for $25.

Australian starter pack no longer available August 31

This is important if you live in the land down under! You had better strike while the iron is hot, as Sony plans to phase out the special starter/bundle pack in Australia after August 31st. The starter pack is a pretty good deal, containing two games, two controllers, and the 60GB model all for the regular price of a system. Europe need not get worried, though. Sony has assured the world the deal has no time limit in Europe.

Are we sort of annoyed that this deal is being removed from Australia a matter of weeks after being introduced? Sure we are, especially since Europe gets to keep the deal for what appears to be forever. However, there's not much we can do about it, but we surmise the reasoning is that Australia, while selling the PS3 quite well in its own right, isn't the biggest market for Sony to offer the deal. Backwards reasoning, isn't it not?

Deal of the day: 60GB PS3 for £329.99

Shopto.net is offering a 60GB PS3 for £329.99 with free 24 hour shipping within the UK. There's nothing bundled with it, so chances are you'll need to pick up a game or two. Maybe an extra controller.

We're torn with this one. On the one hand, we've been saying all along that the entry level price for the PS3 needs to be lower. On the other hand, the £425 bundle in most stores carries a "saving" of almost £115. Having said that, this deal carries an actual saving of £95. "Actual" meaning you don't spend the money in the first place.

On the other hand (yes, we're three-armed mutants. How do you think we type so fast?) £329 for the best Blu-Ray player on the market is an incredible deal. What do you guys think?

[Thanks Patrick]

Confirmed: Hardboiled will be in full HD for the PS3 Stranglehold SE

Following months of confusion, Evil Avatar has received confirmation that the PS3 version of the Stranglehold Special Edition will be getting a fully remastered HD version of the John Woo classic, Hardboiled. When it was originally announced, Midway didn't actually clarify whether the movie would be in standard DVD definition or if it would be in full sexy 1080p. Things were compounded when a trailer for the Stranglehold SE edition came out on the PSN and showcased some video clips of Hardboiled -- looking decidely low-rez (like VHS low-rez).

Luckily, Midway has clarified that we will indeed be getting a remastered HD version of the movie, which puts the Special Edition of the title right back in the 'MUST OWN' category for any Action movie fans. And for the X-bots out there, there is no reason to pout. You will also be getting a Special Edition version of Stranglehold. It's true... you won't get the movie. But you WILL get behind the scenes footage of the game! Woot!

Australia, you get a nice PS3 bundle also, you know!

We could never forget about our friends down under! It has been confirmed that the PlayStation 3 will get the bundle package treatment in Australia as well, starting August 2nd. This isn't really a price drop -- the console will still put you back A$999, but like Europe, will come with a lot of extras that makes it appear to be a bargain.

When you buy the bundle package, you get two Sixaxis controllers, a copy of Resistance: Fall of Man and a copy of Motorstorm along with your 60GB PS3. So, if you were unable to take the plunge before due to the high start-up cost of the system, this bundle doesn't make it any less painful for your wallet, except you'd have saved quite a bit on the extra peripheral and two games. Would you guys rather have the US consumers' price drop, or keep this bundle? Again, look for your version of Europe's bundle to hit shelves August 2nd.

PlayStation 3 sells out at Amazon, nothing until next week

While analysts and pundits (rightfully) debate the honesty and reasoning behind the whole PS3 pricing debacle, it's clear that consumers have just been focused on one thing: the price tag. Sony mentioned during their conference that sales at all their major resalers had doubled already and it looks like they weren't kidding -- Amazon just ran out of their entire stock of PlayStation 3s and aren't getting anything until next week. Normally, stocking issues is more of a Wii phenomenon but it looks like a lot of people were either waiting in baited anticipation for the price cut, or a lot of people are scared Sony is going to jack the price of the PS3 back up to 600 dollars later this year.

Interestingly, sales of the PlayStation 3 have been so strong that its pushed the Amazon special pack-in movie Resident Evil into the top 5 movie sellers across all formats, including DVDs. That's something that even top tier Blu-ray releases can rarely do for even a couple days, and Resident Evil has been holding there all week. Since it's pretty unlikely that an older Blu-ray disc would undergo such a resurrection in sales by itself, that alone indicates that the PS3 sales have been extremely good at Amazon. With great games finally coming out and a decent library starting to form, this is a good time to be a new PS3 owner -- but how long will the sales spike last? Until the only option is a $599 80GB PS3?

*UPDATE*
Looks like they got an early new shipment of PS3s and they're back in stock at Amazon. Go get your buy on!

*UPDATE 2*
Holy crap, they just ran out of stock again. People REALLY want their PS3s, don't they?

60GB PS3 + 3 games + HDMI + Blu-Ray for £399 at Play.com

Play.com is currently offering a very competitive PS3 hardware bundle. For £399 you can get a 60GB PS3, Resistance, Motorstorm, Genji an HDMI cable and a Blu-Ray movie (Click). Add an extra controller for £28 and you're paying for the Starter Pack, but getting an extra game, cable and movie. This is a saving of £214 and we think that it is excellent value. There's no word on when this bundle will end, but it's fairly safe to imagine that stock will sell out fairly swiftly with a deal like that. So if you're tempted, go for it.

Play.com will ship internationally (seemingly for free), with the price working out to about €593. Though there may be customs charges to worry about. Check the customs laws for your individual country before ordering.

Europe to get "PS3 Starter Pack"; SCEE announcement still to come

MaxConsole.net is reporting that they have received news of a new bundle for the European region. The "PlayStation Starter Pack" will allegedly contain a 60GB PS3, Resistance: Fall of Man, Motorstorm and two controllers for the "no-changes-there" price of €600. Those hoping for a price drop may be disappointed. Technically. Though if you think about it, you're essentially getting the 60GB and controller for €430, after deducting the price of the games and extra controllers.

Sounds like an ok deal to us, though it doesn't help the people who just can't afford that sort of money. It might push a few fencesitters over the edge, though. We'll keep you updated with SCEE's planned announcements as and when they happen. Price information aside, we're hoping for some juicy PSN news. We've heard rumblings.
