Swagwatch™: Metal Gear Solid 4 loot from Konami's press meeting

At Konami's pre-TGS press conference, attendees were given a collection of intriguing artifacts which ranged from bizarre to chucklesome to really pretty cool. A bottle of Konami and Winning Eleven branded water is promised to make you fit, healthy and beautiful, just like Konami's upcoming games. Apparently.

Another priceless relic included in the bundle is what appears to be a dishcloth with the Konami code written on it. Just in case you needed to remember it whilst drying the dishes. Our favourite item, however, is the Metal Gear Solid 4 artbook which includes a whole bunch of concept art, photos of Kojima himself and stills from the game. There's some text in there too which, we're sure, is incredibly interesting to those who can read it.

Check out the gallery below for photos of the swag, including some close ups of the book.

TGS07: Virtually at Sony's pre-TGS cocktail

Where else would Sony host their pre-TGS cocktail party but at their Corporate Headquarters in Shinagawa? Sony opened their doors to the non-Japanese media today for the first time and we got to see what their lavishly over the top interior designers have done with the place. The room was full of journalists, Sony executives (from both sides of the pond - SCEI were surprisingly absent) and more food and drink than you could shake a stick at. Trust us, we tried.

Check out the gallery below to see the huge screens that showed off Sony's multiple first party trailers as well as the smaller screens which allowed us another wee glimpse into those upcoming 2007 games (for the upteenth time). There were people there too, apparently.

New Tekken 6 screens prove progress is positive

Curious to see how the latest arcade brawler is shaping up for its console release late next year? We're sure you are! We've gotten a hold of some of the latest screenshots and we're surprised at how far the game has come along. Everything looks fantastic, but there is one problem -- we want to see it in action. As awesome as any screenshots are, it's nothing compared to watching those stills come to life and beat each other silly.

The ground textures need a little work in a few of the stages, but since the game hasn't hit the final stretch by any means, we're not too concerned that kind of thing will get overlooked. Enjoy the new screenshots in our gallery, or if you can't figure out which are new, head over to the official Tekken website.

LocoRoco screens soothe our blobby souls [update 1]

[Update: Yeah, LocoRoco PS3 actually is a full game. The whole screensaver mumbo jumbo serves as one of those rumors that just won't let go, so to speak.]

While the LocoRoco we're looking at isn't exactly a full-blown sequel to the PSP classic, it's an "interactive screensaver" which, to us, means it's just a one-screen level. From the gallery below, you can see there's more than you'd expect from a mere screensaver, so we're going to go ahead and call this a pseudo-sequel. A teaser, if we may, of what's to come in the future of LocoRoco land. If you can't derive enjoyment from sloshing a yellow blob around your television screen, you've obviously gone through life a little too seriously. We're looking forward to relaxing a bit with this title -- relieve some of that Warhawk-related stress. Check out the gallery and leave us your impressions!

PS3 Fanboy looks at Ratchet & Clank's concept art

We don't think you've seen these before. Stolen from the inner depths of the Insomniac offices, we have brand new concept art from the upcoming Ratchet & Clank: Tools of Destruction. In our first gallery, you'll see the creative process at work: from environment designs, to creature creations.

In our second gallery, you'll get a closer look at many of the new characters in R&C. For example, the "sultry" Talwyn, someone that holds the key to the "Lombax secret" perhaps?

Thanks to Insomniac for providing this art to our readers! (Expect to see many of these return for our Wallpaper collection this weekend!)

Updated Folklore gallery and new details to up the hype

We've updated our Folklore gallery with a load more images that really show off the great art style of this game. For those of you who don't find screenshots too exciting, take a look regardless. Monster designs, concept art and the final boxart are included.

Just six of the game's monster designs are shown below, but rest assured that all 100+ are as creepy as stylish as the ones you see here. We have some more interesting information about this title that we gleaned from our time at 3Rooms yesterday. Here they are in handy bullet point form.
  • 100+ monsters to catch and abilities to learn
  • The game takes advantage of the internet by allowing user created dungeons, online leaderboards and Quest Packs
  • The game includes seven different regions (read: levels): Hell Realm, Faery Realm, Warcadia, Endless Corridor, Netherworld Cave, Undersea City
  • Ellen's costumes each correspond to one of the above regions
  • You can start the game as either Ellen or Keats. You then play as that character for five chapters, before being able to switch between them at will during the final two chapters.

New Heavenly Sword gallery shows Andy Serkis in a funny suit

We love Andy Serkis for everything he's done for Heavenly Sword. Helping turn a game into a cinematic masterpiece. We've loved him for years though, ever since his role in Lord of the Rings. In fact, we're no strangers to seeing Serkis in a mo-cap suit, seeing as we watched the extras on the LOTR DVDs several times.

Our new gallery, found below, includes some fresh Serkis mo-cap pictures and some interesting King Bohan images. They are particularly fascinating to those interested in the specifics of 3D graphics generation. Low-polygon wireframes of King Bohan are found alongside high detailed mudbox renders. Fascinating!

New Heavenly Sword art shows off weapons, environments

Okay, we admit we have a love affair with Heavenly Sword. So much so that we're willing to grab onto any piece of art that comes out of Ninja Theory. This latest batch of art focuses on the weapons and environments in this upcoming PS3 action game. The graphics engine is impressive ... but what drives the real visual beauty of the game comes from its impressive art. Check out our gallery below:

Dynasty Warriors 6 screens hack n' slash their way to our hearts

After the announcement that Dynasty Warriors 6 will feature both swimming and climbing (stop the presses!) we were hooked. In addition to those elements, the ability to create your own combo string into an almost infinite wave of attacks really gives us something to mull over whilst hacking through thousands of brain-dead Chinese warriors. Take a look at the gallery compiled below, courtesy of the official Dynasty Warriors 6 website, and let us know if you think this game will freshen up the mostly stale guilty pleasure Koei has milked for so very long.

Gorgeous Soulcalibur IV screens define next-gen fighting

This is what real next-gen fighting games look like. Namco's latest batch of Soulcalibur IV screenshots look absolutely incredible. In fact, many of the environments had us questioning if these were in real-time or not. One look at Taki's enhancements, however, will realize that not everything in this PS3/Xbox 360 sequel is totally realistic.

Check out our new gallery below:

Warhawk making split-screen sexy again

Modern multiplayer games have nearly killed something we loved from the Nintendo 64 era: split-screen multiplayer. Now that our televisions have more pixels and are larger, shouldn't we herald the return of split-screen multiplayer? Warhawk is proud to boast four players on one screen, and if you're running on an HDTV, each section of the screen will still have more resolution than full-screen games from the PS1/N64 era. We hope that other games will follow Warhawk's path and make split-screen gaming sexy again. Do you agree?

Check out new screenshots in our gallery below:

Lair absent from E3, should we worry?

Unless it was hidden away in some alcove, the upcoming PS3 exclusive, Lair, was absent from Sony's E3 gaming arcade. We had extensive time with Sony's upcoming games, but should we worry that this high-profile shooter from Factor 5 was unplayable on the show floor? Could control issues be plaguing the title? Let's hope not. [Update: A commenter noted that it was playable at Barker Hangar. Unfortunately, we only played games from Sony's arcade in Le Merigot.]

Check out some screenshots in our updated gallery:

It's real: Gran Turismo 5 Prologue

At Sony's E3 press conference, Sony showcased the stunning Gran Turismo 5 Prologue trailer. At first, we thought that some parts of the game were pre-rendered. We overheard one Sony developer telling us, off the record, that if any developer can make a game look that good, it's certainly Polyphony Digital.

Check out the new screenshots in our gallery:

Dark Sector details reveal: no health or ammo bars, just you

We promised you before we had some more news about Dark Sector coming, so here we are dishing out the information fed to us through an official press release. Instead of narrating the darn thing, we thought we'd give you a fun summary of the information in our patented, copyrighted, unique list form. We're kidding! Lists are used in like, three other places.
  • It's a new IP! Not many games can say that. It's also boasting a great, cinematic story.
  • There is no HUD -- that is, a health bar or ammo count. No little menus on the screen to distract you from looking at the actual game. From the press release: "As the character takes damage he will begin to physically show it, ammunition levels will be displayed on guns, available weapons and inventory will be displayed on the character – all serving to keep the player focused on the character and the gameplay." We personally think this is a great move.
  • The controls are guaranteed to be simple and intuitive so you can master any skills fairly easily. If you tried to play Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes on the GameCube, you know how pesky an awkward controller setup can be.
  • The camera, as previously mentioned, is over-the-shoulder so you can not only make better movements, but will be "showing full visual of Hayden allowing for the player to make a connection with the character." A connection? Right.
  • Upgradeable weapons, stupendous AI, and a main character slightly reminiscent of Kratos in so much that he's cold-blooded and ruthless, gives no excuse for his actions, but as the story progresses, we start to understand him and see how the events of the game change him. Or something.
What's more, below, we've got a gallery of screenshots for you to check out. They're magically delicious and want your attention. We'll keep updating you on this game until it arrives early in 2008. Hopefully, Digital Extremes will have the foresight to give people a demo to play over the PSN before then!

New Tekken 6 screens and artwork KO the competition

A long while back, we talked about a new character entering the Tekken 6 arena: Miguel, a matador of sorts. Since then, a lot of fancy new screenshots have been thrown up detailing some of the other characters. Not just screenshots, but some pieces of CG artwork have made their way across the series of tubes we call the internet. Included in the gallery below are a bunch of in-game stills featuring ladies in provocative clothing, but there are other shots hovering around the web of equal awesomeness.

Check out the gallery, enjoy, and tell us which character you are the absolute master of. It has been said that Tekken 6 will have the largest cast in the series' history. Plan to test out any of the new characters, or will you stick with your old favorite?
